So, Amber and I took a trip to Washington D.C. (and surrounding areas) in mid October. I am too lazy to go through all the pictures I took, and I'm sure most of them are just roads with trees on either side. If you want to know what the trip was like, watch the first half of The Brown Bunny. Anyway, our last day on the trip we drove into D.C., visited Georgetown, then hit up the Smithsonian (we checked out the museums of Natural History and Art), walked around for a while, then started the long trek back to St. Louis. The last picture is from Maryland (which we didn't even know we were going to be passing through), which was scary as hell, considering the fact that a) we were on some high mountains with more curves than Belladonna b) it was raining and my windsheild was not reacting well c) on the mountain roads of maryland and virginia streetlights are a rare occurance, and d) there was so much fog around that we could literally only see 10 feet in front of us.
Very scary, but we still made it home.
Most of these pictures are from the Smithsonian, which was quite picturesque. I recommend everyone visit it some day. It's like walking into an encyclopedia.
The strangest occurance was a young man from a small town came up to us and started talking about killing a porcupine or something strange like that. He followed us around for a while, sharing interesting anecdotes about living in the country, and how his hometown was the absolute worst possible place to live (which everyone says up to a certain point.)
This brings me to realize that Washington D.C. has some cool parts to it, but I love St. Louis way more.
Cool things about Washington D.C.:
Good public transportation.
Many sightseeing things to do.
A very formidable shopping district.
License plates that say "Taxation without representation."
Very cool architecture.
Bad things about Washington D.C.:
Snobby residents.
Too many vendors trying to sell touristy stuff.
Too many tourists.
Constant "big brother" feeling.
Terrible traffic (Besides the fact that there are 2 zillion cars on the road, they don't have left turn lights. WTF?)
Mean cops.
Expensive everything.
